Do your sneakers, trainers or running shoes smell?? – CleanSneaks

We all know the smell of old training shoes.. Not the best. I often get compliments for how clean and new my sneakers look and it’s been something I have always tried to be on top of. If you take care of your shoes they can last for a long time and can indeed stay fresh looking and even smelling.

CleanSneaks is a company I have been using for quite a few years now. Basically since they started coming out with their own products. It’s a small company that started with just a couple of young guys based out of an apartment at Nørrebro, Copenhagen. They produce cleaning supplies and Refresher products for sneakers/training shoes. Their products is produced in Denmark and I can definitely vouch for the quality. The main owner Ándre, is a very nice, stand up guy who makes sure that the products they put out are top notch. They have been on the market for quite a few years and are now trying to really break out and get their products out on a larger scale.

They have been kind enough to send me some products, as a gift, to do a prober review.

First I wanted to test out some of their refresher products for my running shoes and I also wanted to try how they would hold up with my marathon shoes. These shoes have been with me for 2+ hour sessions on the road and have definitely smelled a little bit better than they did in the beginning.

They have 3 main refresher products.

– Refreshening balls

– Odour Eliminator

– Shoe Deo

The first two products are mainly for everyday use or for your “newer” shoes. Designed to take away that light smell or just make your shoes have a nice fresh smell. The shoe deo is the hard hitter designed to kill the bacteria and really take away the smell from an old pair of trainers.

Lets dive into the 3 products in more detail:

– Refreshening Balls

This is probably the product that most people are familiar with. It’s a pair of balls with some refreshing smell and natural aroma that you can throw inside your shoes. They will give them that nice fresh smell and feel again but will not kill really bad bacteria. I use this product with the product below for my never shoes to keep them fresh.

– Odor Eliminator

This product is very similar to the one above but in a spray. It’s designed to make your shoes smell fresh and clean. It will not take away the smell or kill the bacteria from a really old pair of trainers but it will keep your sneakers or running shoes smell nice and fresh if you use it regularly. I primarily use it to keep my shoes fresh and use it after I have given them a nice round with the Shoe Deo and have already killed the Bacteria.

– Shoe Deo

The hard hitter and probably my favorite product to really get rid of the bacteria and bring an old pair of sneakers or training shoes back to life. This product is a lot stronger and will help fight of the bacteria in the shoes.

This is usually my go to product for the first treatment on an old or very used pair of trainers and then afterwards I use the two other products to keep the shoes fresh.

This product really work.  You have to give your shoes a thorough spray inside and if possible try to put something over the hole for your foot, for a little while, to keep the spray inside for a better effect.

Pegasus Turbo – My Marathon shoe

I have given all the products a try on my main pair of Pegasus Turbos. These shoes have been my main choice through my marathon prep and have a lot of miles in them. I have purposely not done anything to them cleaning wise to try and really test out the effect – and it does work. Even for this pair the shoe deo managed to get rid of the bad smell and bacteria and I can now keep them fresh with the odour spray.

If your interested you can check them out here and they have even been kind enough to offer a discount code which will give you 25% off the entire shop. The code is: jonathanwindfeld25

I will follow this post up with a more detailed one about their cleaning products to keep the shoes look good as well as smell good.
