Running in bad weather – Review/Test of the Nike Odyssey React Shield

I primarily bought this new Nike Odyssey React Shield model because of the “Shield”-update to see if they could be a good option for the upcoming colder and weat months. I used Nike’s Pegasus Shield model last year and was pretty satisfied with them so I had high hopes for this new release.

I have had them for a couple of weeks now and my overall initial experience is quite positive. No shoe will keep your feet completely dry, if you run in pouring rain, but these are definitely an upgrade worth buying if you want to keep running through the winter months and are tired of getting your feet soaked at the first Small puddle of water.

They come with a water repellent reflective upper and without traditional laces but simply a lace lock at the top instead to keep a tight fit. I had my doubts about this new lacing system but it works – the shoe fits like a glove and it’s very easy adjustable.

The sole is with the React technology, which I’m a big fan of, because of its nice and soft feel along with a great bounce and response.

They have also put some special rubber underneath the forefoot and heel to provide better traction on wet or icy surfaces..

Overall I’m positive and will be using mine for my longer runs on those days where the weather is not at it’s best. This is not a tempo-shoe but a stabile option for the longer sessions or your everyday run.

Nike has also released a Nike Pegasus Shield option which I haven’t tried but it is supposed to have most of the same features – it is just build on the basics of the Pegasus model. So if you like the Pegasus better than the React this could be a solid option instead.

In my opinion they run true to Size ⚡

They can be bought here.
